Job Description:
CAD Draftsperson
Basic Purpose: Uses CAD equipment to do a higher level of design work and prepare routine layouts and detail drawings, sketches and diagrams. Project details include all product views and dimensions necessary for manufacture.
Duties and Responsibilities & Essential Functions:
1. Under supervision of a Cad Designer or higher, create drawings and bills of materials for components and body assemblies. This includes making layout drawings, and detail drawings as required by development of a new product or revising an existing product.
2. Support Engineering Department progress to complete drawing revisions in a timely manner for release to Production.
3. Ability to make most decisions on own but can refer some questions/problems to CAD Designers or higher.
4. Makes copies of drawings and documents design changes.
5. Ability to do mechanical design and layout drawings with in level of product knowledge
6. Assist with support of customer service functions of SFA as assigned to resolve mechanical system concerns by working with Production and Material Control personnel as required by individual cases. Produce documentation while providing help on sales orders or products for future reference in s/o files.
7. To the extent defined by Engineering Supervision, is familiar with and supports requirements of SFA’s company management software (Made2Manage) as relating to engineering parameters, bills of material, etc.
8. Provide hands-on assistance to shop personnel for manufacture/assembly of products as appropriate where necessitated by complexity of projects or priorities for project goals.
9. Under direction of Lead Cad Designer or higher, organize and maintain records of materials, drawings, spreadsheets, test results, job histories, etc. of projects for future reference.
10. Follow written and verbal work orders and instructions in English, including all company policies and procedures documented in SFA Policy and Safety Manuals.
11. Utilize a variety of software programs such as spreadsheets, databases, CAD programs, Windows, etc.
Non-Essential Functions
1. Perform other duties as may be assigned.
Education, Experience, and Skills Required:
1. High school with two year technical school with emphasis on drafting and math or equivalent experience and training.
2. CAD proficiency (preferably AutoCad 2000 or above); minimum two years experience with computer aided drafting.
3. Solid Works proficient
4. Has good product knowledge.
5. Is mechanically inclined.
6. Proficiency in the following programs: Excel, Microsoft Access, Microsoft Word
7. Familiarity with mechanical or automotive systems and components through work experience.
8. Organizational skills to carry out more than one task simultaneously with only limited supervision.
9. Ability to perform rigorous physical activities associated with checking, trouble shooting,
10. Collecting data and information in the shop, or otherwise assisting with requirements of industrial manufacturing tasks on large equipment and in a noisy environment.
